We are really excited to introduce Mel and Clive who own the fabulous shop Woodie and Morris in Surrey, which has just started stocking IzziRainey products.
Please tell us a bit about Woodie and Morris...
Woodie and Morris is named after our two dogs and we opened our boutique nearly 8 years ago. We offer a wide variety of womenswear including clothing and footwear along with lifestyle products like yours and skincare, etc. We like to sell different products than people can't get on the High Street and we’ve been told that we offer great customer service. We’re a very friendly bunch and we’re always on the hunt for something new, different and well priced. Morris the little dog is in residence most days. We’ve been shortlisted for The Drapers Independent Awards on several occasions and last year W&M won the Best Boutique in Surrey crown.
Where did the idea come from to start Woodie and Morris?
The idea to start W&M came because there was a gap in the market locally for a boutique such as ours offering a variety of products at a variety of price points. We also fell in love with the space that we occupy which happened to become available when we started looking for premises in Haslemere (the shop was originally a pub in the 17th century).
It sounds fantastic! Had you always dreamt of opening your own shop?
We wholesaled footwear for 6 years and it was a natural progression to move into retail at the time that we did. It’s been a useful experience being on both sides of the fence and has served us well.
As you know all of our products are designed by Izzi and manufactured in the UK, is this something you feel passionate about? Do you stock a lot of other British designer makers?
The product comes first but the fact that your product is made in the UK is a bonus. We like the unique prints and the variety of products, we believe it will appeal to our customers looking for something different but well priced as gifts. We also stock another brand called MAKE which is wonderful skincare range made in Somerset. We don’t however actively seek out British designers.
We totally agree, it is all about the product. If it possible to, do you like to stock local artists in your shop?
The product is always more important than the location of the artist/manufacturer but it would be a bonus to source local. It is however not something we focus on when buying.
You have lots of wonderful fantastic products in store, where do you tend to source your products from?
Thank you! We source at trade shows, via social media, agents, contacts made via email and other boutiques who may recommend certain brands to us. It’s important to us that we don’t stock product widely available elsewhere so we’re always on the hunt for the new and exciting. We also travel a fair bit, we’ve recently come back from Berlin where we picked up a few new clothing and footwear labels we’ll be introducing later in the year.
It must be so fun being able to handpick lots of great products. Do you have theme for your shop or do you like to mix it up?
The interior is carefully merchandised using wood furniture like dressers, wooden rails etc. We like to think it is a very welcoming experience, light and airy. No metal shop fittings here thank you very much. The products need to fit into this look and feel but nothing is off limits product wise. We do like variety and we do like to offer different price-points to suit a variety of pockets.
And finally...what first drew your attention to IzziRainey products?
The wonderful colours and prints
Thank you both so much for joining us. Everyone take a look at Woodie and Morris' website or pop in if your ever nearby.
