Yesterday afternoon saw lots of excitement here on the farm, Molly, our lovely vet paid us a visit to check on our Highland fold!
There has been a recent case of TB in cattle near us so we have been placed in a radial TB zone meaning that we have had to increase our TB testing for all of our cattle. Yesterday was the first of our six months test, Molly came to perform the tests and will come back at the end of the week to assess the results. We had a few nervous patients, but we got through it in the end! Hamish, our stock bull, was definitely the star of the day as he was so beautifully behaved!
We also PD tested (pregnancy tests) at the same time and we were thrilled to have everyone in calf apart from Netty, who had been a late calver anyway so she will be put back in with Hamish!
A big thank you to Molly and her team for making everything easy and looking after our Highlands' so well!
This morning we took a few minutes out of our day to weigh some of our furry friends! Some of the old favourites such as Netty and Elizabeth were on the weighing scales and are looking fantastic! Obviously a summer of sun and lots of yummy grass has done them good! Some of the cattle were more keen than others about stepping on the scales, but everyone cooperated in the end!
We are all really pleased with how they are all looking and are hoping they will shine at the agricultural shows like they did earlier this year!
