We are excited to announce the launch of our homewares in the prestigious high street store, John
Lewis. John Lewis has recently begun a new initiative to support British artisan makers called ‘Made Locally’, our products can now be found in the Norwich store as well as the online store. We are particularly excited to be now part of this initiative as it is giving a boost to independent British business. It is fantastic to be part of a new concept aimed to champion and support British designer makers and having our products in such a wonderful store. Please keep your eyes peeled next time you are in Norwich as you may spot our prints!
What a wonderful day we all had at Burnham Market Summer craft fair. Burnham Market is a gorgeous village about half an hour down the road from us in Norfolk. There is a beautiful green in the centre of the village that really is the most perfect spot for a local craft fair. The fair has been running for over 25 years now, showcasing local designer makers. It was such a shame we didn't get more time to leave our stand to see everyone else's work- but it was just too busy! However from what we saw, there was a wonderful selection of local and regional artists showing off their quality products, it was great to see so many stallholders we knew too. It was lovely being a part of a fair that champions British design and manufacturing and supports local designer makers. A big thank you must go to Izzi's Sister, Cecily, for getting up so early to help us set up and helped throughout the day- couldn't have done it without her. She also was selling her gorgeous hand designed animal patterned, greetings cards on the stand too- everyone loved them. To see Cecily's work take a look at her Instagram >>>https://www.instagram.com/cecilymayrose7199/?hl=en or buy them on our website >>>http://www.izzirainey.com/store/c60/Cecily_May_Rose_Cards.html
We were so pleased the sun shined for most of the day...even though it was very windy! However, we can't complain, we had a fantastic day and hope to take part in the event again next year as it really is such a fantastic local fair run by a small committee in the village. If you have never been to the event, you really should make the effort to go next year- we hope we will be there too!
We are very excited to announce the launch of our exclusively designed range of kitchenware for Holkham Hall, Norfolk. Working closely with Holkham Hall we have designed and created textile prints inspired by two of the animals strongly associated with the estate. Holkham's Belted Galloway cattle that roam the marshes and pasture land and the quirky pink footed geese that wonder through out the Hall's vast grounds. It has been a pleasure working alongside one of Norfolk's most iconic stately homes, drawing inspiration from the grand surroundings of the Hall to the expanse of the marshes.
Having grown up in Norfolk, we have visited Holkham many times with its stunning grounds, open marshland and beautiful beach. It was a great honour to be asked to design the kitchenware range for The Courtyard Shop based at the Hall. An opportunity to explore Holkham further was one which we grabbed with both hands. There was so much inspiration to be taken from the estate, it was difficult to know where to begin. After collecting lots of imagery from the various aspects of Holkham, the gardens, the marshland, the parkland and the architecture it was time to return to the studio.
'Once in the studio I began to draw from all the imagery and inspiration I had collected from my visits to Holkham, these drawings then evolved into handmade stamps which begin the basis for my print work. Once printing, I began to create designs using the combination of simple shapes and silhouettes to create repeat textile designs. Working closely with Holkham we decided upon the chosen designs, the pink footed goose and the Belted Galloway cattle. The animals were one of my favourite parts of visiting Holkham so I was especially pleased with the decision. ' - Izzi
The kitchenware range includes placemats, coasters, trays, chopping boards, oven gloves, oven gauntlets and hob covers and is available from The Courtyard Shop, Holkham Hall.
A little more information about Holkham's Belted Galloway cattle...
How many Belted Galloway cattle does Holkham have?
We have 28 cows plus calves.
How long has Holkham had Belted Galloway cattle?
We have had the Belted Galloway cattle for around four years now.
What made you chose this particular breed?
We chose the Belted Galloway as they are suited to grazing the very poor, rough ground of the marshes. They can stay out on the marshes until October/November, they are then brought back to the farm in Warham.
Do they live out all year round?
Yes, they are kept out all year round even through calving.
We spotted two different colours, do they come in any other colours?
Yes, they come in three different colours black, grey and red.
Holkham promotes farm to fork, where do you sell the beef?
The beef is sold on the menu at The Victoria Inn, Holkham Estate.
This week we have been in Leeds, visiting family and friends. We were so excited as we got the chance to go and visit our new stockist, Chirpy which is in Chapel Allerton, just outside Leeds City centre. Jo has the most wonderful range of contemporary and quirky gifts, gorgeous homewares and a wonderful selection of local art too. Chirpy also has lots of workshops that go on in the upstairs of the shop, including book binding, ceramics, life drawing and lots more...! What a great idea for Birthday parties and hen do's, have a look at their website to see what is going on this Summer. It is always so great to see our products in people's shops amongst so many different design makers work.
