The last few days have been full on here on the farm. We have had another new arrival, who has now been named Angus, who is finding it hard to feed properly from his Mum, so we have been giving him a little help. We have been using a bottle to try and teach him how to suckle and he is slowly getting the hang of it and suckled from his Mum for the first time this morning!
We are also getting ready for the Royal Norfolk Show next week. We have been washing the cattle, combing them and making sure they look fantastic for next week. Hopefully we will do as well as we did at the Suffolk Show a few weeks ago, fingers crossed.
Over the weekend the first of our new arrivals had their ears pierced- they were tagged. All of the cattle have ear tags in so they can be identified throughout their time here on the farm. Both of the calves were well behaved and didn't make too much of a fuss! They are now officially part of the fold with their brand new piercings and hopefully they will be joined by more calves in the next few weeks.
Keep tuned for more farming updates as we are off to the Royal Norfolk Show next week!
We had a wonderful few days at the Wealden Times Mid- Sumer Fair at Hole Park in Kent. It was a beautiful setting for a really gorgeous summer fair. The fair was full of some wonderful stalls and delicious food stalls. The weather was amazing for the few days and definitely felt like a mid-Summer fair, until it was time to pack down when the heavens opened- typical England! That said, we had a great few days, it is always lovely meeting other exhibitors, catching up friends and chatting to our customers. Wealden Times also has a Mid-Winter in November which we are taking part in, we can't wait. Now we are back on the farm, preparations are underway with the cattle for the Royal Norfolk Show, keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon.
It has a very busy time here on the farm! Sorry it has taken a few days to write this post, we went to The Suffolk Show in Ipswich last Tuesday on a very rainy day. Not really the perfect conditions for preparing cattle or sleeping in a cattle trailer! However it was all worth while as we ended up winning the Highland Breed Champion with our 2yr old heifer Elizabeth. So after weeks of combing, washing and blow drying it was all worth while and now we look forward to The Royal Norfolk Show.
